At 2:15 pm PST on September 30th, we joined with neighbours across North Vancouver to recognize Canada's first National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. At the invitation of Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, we gathered to drum for the healing of the families and communities whose children did not come home, and for the healing of the Indian Residential Schools Survivors who carried the burden of knowing where the children were buried.
One of our youngest members used the drum that was gifted to our parish by the late Reverend Vivian Seegers. Vivian was a Sun Dancer and Anglican priest. Many of her teachings remain at the heart of our community.
Several passersby also joined in, including Gwynneth Powell Sobejko whose orange shoe memorial was recently featured in the North Shore News.
