On Sunday, we carried on the tradiiton of chalking the door at St. Clement's to ask a blessing on all who enter in the year ahead. You can bring this custom home and mark the lintel above your own front door - just pick up a piece of chalk and a prayer card from church on Sunday.
Thank you to Dave Parry who was tall enough to do a good job of marking our doorway with the usual 20+C+M+B+22 (20 being the century, 22 being the year). The C, M, and B stand either for Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar, names traditionally associated with the magi, or, alternately, Christus mansionem benedicat, or "May Christ bless this house."
It is good to have reminders of God's grace all around us. This custom may be one way you can bring the message home, literally!
