St. Clement's Day was extra special this year as we were able to celebrate the legacy of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church, our neighbouring community of faith that courageously chose to sell its building and donate the proceeds to a number of local charities.
On behalf of the members of Mt. Olivet, Ingrid Potter presented our priest and wardens with a cheque for $273,000. We are honoured that Mt. Olivet has by this generous act not just demonstrated its affection for the parish of St. Clement, but its faith that we will carry on its work of effective Christian ministry in Lynn Valley and beyond.
Each member of Mt. Olivet was also able to designate another charity of their choosing to receive a gift of $50,000 from the sale of the property. We have been thrilled to learn about the wide range of local charities that are benefiting from this astonishing generosity. And we are humbled that one of the Mt. Olivet congregation chose St. Clement's to receive this additional $50,000 that was in their ability to give.
At our Sunday morning service we also received with thanks Mt. Olivet's beautiful baptismal font and paschal candle. Our servers, Lily and Carson, assisted Helen as she gave a Thanksgiving over the Water at the start of the service. And thank you to Sharon, who made sure we received one of Mt. Olivet's remaining bottles of communion wine, too! We look forward to sharing it some Sunday morning soon!
St. Clement's is enormously grateful for the longstanding friendship and shared ministries enjoyed by our two churches over the past several years. We salute Mt. Olivet members for all the spiritual care, practical compassion and Christian witness they have offered in North Vancouver over past decades, and, through these generous gifts, they will continue to support in years to come.
